Texting While Driving PSA Delivers Bloody, Bone-Crunching Message – Texting – Gizmodo

The video was done with local actors by the Gwent police department, to be shown in area schools as part of a 30-minute deterrent movie about “texting while driving.” It’s effective, violent and bloody. That’s probably the point.

Texting While Driving PSA Delivers Bloody, Bone-Crunching Message – Texting – Gizmodo.

Texting While Driving Message

WARNING.  Not for the squeamish. I don’t know about you, but I’m sure there are many out there who are very lucky that this has not happened to them. More ADD activities for us, we are concentrating on so many different things simultaneously. Will we have a chance to slow down? Perhaps only when the grid is disrupted. Then we’ll all get back to agriculture, hard copy, and actually communicating.

I think we do need more of this type of PSA in the states.  But who knows, maybe something like this would backfire, the stubborn in us thinking we’d be immune.  Shock and awe in all of its magnificence.  Woah.

Hunter S. Thompson quote, where it applies on the web

Posted by webalong | marketing, music | Friday 11 April 2008 5:11 pm

I re-encountered one of my favorite quotes recently.  The quote was on the back of a business card:

“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.  There’s also a negative side.”

Might this apply to the internet?  And with the largest music companies striking deals with myspace, might this not now be seeping into cyberspace?  I think it’s a myth that big music is not fully aware of the necessity of playing on the web.  With the ever-shrinking market for music, and cd sales tanking even further, there’s no other choice.

There’s hope for indies out here, the “good people” if you will, to find their niche and work within what appear to be well-established paths to success.  Any way to connect with fans is the way to go, however, web or no web!

Blogger vs. Wordpress Revisited: A Work In Progress

Posted by Rob Schieber | marketing | Thursday 3 January 2008 12:10 am

I am in the midst of deciding which blogging platform is better–Blogger or Wordpress (yes, I’m ignoring some major contenders). It’s a tough decision. A Google of “Blogger vs Wordpress” yields a sizeable result set. Looks like WordPress is coming out a bit ahead.

I decided to go the self-hosted WP route, to get a bit closer to the PHP, dig into the database as well. A point made by some was that the plugins were more plentiful in WordPress, and there was greater SEO control. WP’s import features were convenient. The two blogs will be in sync for a bit. One of them will be retired, perhaps left as an archive, if the kind hosting powers that be permit it.

All in all, both are terrific CMS packages, allowing customization, convenience. They’re easy to use. The WP was a bit of a challenge to deploy, as there was a need to hit the command line for a good while to get things up and running. A GUI is preferable to me vs. a text editor–but it’s handy to know both. And sometimes, truly, you need both.

Get Your Keyword Feet Wet Now

What a difference keywords make in the songs we write, in our conversations and stories, and in our efforts to discover and be discovered on the web.

Here’s a pretty easy way to get your keyword feet wet: go to http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com. This is a “lite” version of a subscription-based keyword suggestion tool (there are many of them), but in just seconds you can catch some insight on what people are searching for on the web. Results are sorted from most popular search on down (”nashville music” showed some healthy results). Focus on where you fit in. What do you do? How are you known? How do you want to be known? Have at it and see how many searches are done daily on what you do. Use these numbers as a springboard to clarifying your marketing message. If you have Internet Explorer 7 or FireFox, you can also click http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/plugin/freekeywords.xml to get the keyword search tool added right to your browser। Have Big Fun!
